Speech Without Borders Now Accepts ETH Staking Yield as Donations
You can now support the defence of free speech every day without giving away your own capital. Speech Without Borders, a nonprofit organisation working to protect the right to speak freely online, has made this possible by joining Lido Impact Staking (LIS).
Through this mechanism, supporters can fund the organisation using the yield generated from Ethereum staking.
The process is simple. An individual stakes their Ethereum (ETH) through Lido Impact Staking. The staked ETH generates rewards over time. The supporter then chooses what portion of those rewards is donated to Speech Without Borders. The original ETH remains theirs and can be withdrawn whenever they choose. In effect, the donation comes from the yield produced by the asset rather than from the asset itself.
This approach allows people to contribute to causes they care about without permanently parting with their capital. Instead, the capital continues to work, producing a steady stream of support for organisations carrying out public interest work.
The Challenge of Online Speech
A small number of private technology companies now hold significant influence over what people can see, share, and say online. Decisions about moderation, visibility, and access often take place behind closed doors. As a result, trust in these platforms has weakened. The aim is to build a coalition of platforms that recognise the importance of protecting open debate. By adopting these standards, companies can provide users with clearer assurances that their ability to speak and exchange ideas will not depend on arbitrary decisions.
Impact Staking
Lido Impact Staking is designed to reduce the friction that often comes with charitable giving. Developed by Launchnodes and built on top of Lido, the largest Ethereum staking network, it enables people to donate a portion of their staking rewards to social causes.
